วันก่อนครูBoss ได้สอนศัพท์ที่น่าสนใจและควรรู้เกี่ยวกับห้องนํ้าเเก่

ซึ่งมีหลายคําด้วยกัน.

คําบางคําอาจใช้ได้กับบางประเทศ, แต่อาจไม่เหมาะสมในอีกประเทศ,

ฉะนั้นพึงระวังก่อนการพูด.

1) Restroom/US: a room with a toilet, in a public place such as a restaurant,
office, or theater. อเมริกัน: ห้องที่มีสุขา, ในที่สาธารณะเช่นร้านอาหาร, ที่ทํางาน,
หรือ โรงหนัง. Ex: Do you have restrooms here? คุณมีห้องนํ้าที่นี่ไหม?
There's no paper in the restroom. ไม่มีกระดาษในห้องนํ้า.

2) Washroom/US: a room in a public building where you can wash and use the toilet.
อเมริกัน: ห้องในตึกสาธารณะที่ซึ่งคุณสามารถชําระล้างและใช้สุขา.
Ex: I went down to the washroom to have a shave. ฉันลงไปห้องนํ้าข้างล่างเพื่อโกนหนวด/ขา.

Ex: Susan refuses to use the public toilets in this country because they are always so dirty.

“F.Y.I/For Your Information”: ถ้าท่านเดินทางไปอเมริกา, โปรดอย่าใช้คําว่า “Toilet” โดยเด็ดขาด เพราะตรงกับภาษาไทยคือคําว่า “ส้วม”, ซึ่งอเมริกันถือว่าไม่สุภาพ. พวกเขาใช้ Restroom, ซึ่งตรงกับภาษาไทยคือ ห้องนํ้า หรือ ห้องสุขา.

4) Bathroom: a room where there is a bath or shower, a basin, and sometimes a toilet, especially in someone's house. ห้องที่ซึ่งมีอ่างอาบนํ้า หรือ ฝักบัว, อ่างล้างมือ, อาจจะมีสุขา, โดยเฉพาะในบ้านใครบางคน. Ex: I really need to go to the bathroom (use a restroom). ฉันต้องการใช้ห้องนํ้าเป็นอย่างมาก. Ex: "Can I use your bathroom?" "Sure, go ahead." “ฉันสามารถใช้ห้องนํ้าของเธอได้ไหม?”

5) John/US, Loo or Bog/UK: Informal a toilet: ภาษาพูด ส้วม. Ex: Bob's in the john.

7) The ladies' room/US, the ladies/UK: the women's toilets in a public place. ห้องนํ้าหญิง/
สุภาพสตรีในสถานที่สาธารณะ. Ex: Wait for me a few minutes. I'm going to the ladies.

8) Lavatory: หล้าฝะทอริ่: Formal: a room containing a toilet, especially in a school, hospital, airplane etc: ภาษาทางการ: ห้องที่มีสุขา, โดยเฉพาะในโรงเรียน, โรงพยาบาล, เครื่องบิน ฯลฯ.
Ex: The lavatory is occupied. You must wait for your turn. ห้องนํ้าถูกใช้งานอยู่.
คุณต้องรอให้ถึงตาคุณ. Ex: The public lavatories are situated on the Beach road.

9) WC หรือ Water Closet/UK: a restroom - used especially on signs in public places and used especially in written information about buildings. อังกฤษ: ห้องนํ้า – WC, ใช้คํานี้บนป้ายเพื่อบ่งบอกห้องนํ้าในสถานที่สาธารณะและใช้ในการเขียนข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับตึก. Ex: Our apartment/US, flat/UK
